Should Flipkart Shutdown the Site Completely and go Full on with Mobile App?

Flipkart is a very familiar name among the online shoppers. Over the years, this top-brand online shopping retailer is not only serving its loyal customers with a wide range of collection in different items, but also offering several offers and discounts quite often. But recently, a major news is buzzing all over the e-commerce world that Flipkart is all set to shut down its main website accessible via computers and planning to go full on mobile app mode from the next year or maybe earlier.

Is this move is well justified?

While finding suitable answers for the above-mentioned question, a debate may arise automatically. Discussed henceforth are some vital points in the favor and against this “unique” kind of decision by Flipkart. The time will tell the rest.

In favor:

According to the higher officials of this giant e-commerce portal, this is going to be a great idea as a major part of transactions is now made via mobile app.

Giving a major boost to this point, within a span of eighteen months, the mobile trafficking have increased about six folds or higher, which is not a small number for sure.

In recent times, the industry of smartphones has grown up rapidly. The shipments almost reached the toll of 80 million last year, which was about 10 million during the year of 2011. This 8-fold increment in just 3 years is just occurred due to the hugely growing craze about usage of various smartphones especially amongst today’s young generations.

The art of mobile app design has also done some tricks here. Just like the app launched by another online shopping portal Myntra, Flipkart developed their mobile app to some perfection let it go amongst the app world. This smartphone app is full of useful options and is enough user friendly that almost anyone who is fluent in using smartphones can navigate through it. All credit simply goes to the mobile application design technology.

Against:

For the conventional desktop and laptop users, this strange decision might seem to be quite childish.  Several old users of e-commerce are not happy at all with this new resolution of the Flipkart authority. For those who are more comfortable with surfing the online portal website, feels quite shattered with this harsh decision, as it will complete them to install the app in their mobile.

Well, the story does not end here. Those mid-aged regular customers of Flipkart who does not have smartphones or not very fluent using it may really find it difficult dealing with this situation. The possible and severe result is quite evitable: there are many other online retailer shops that still have their websites running successfully. If the aforesaid loyal customers of Flipkart turn their faces off then this decision of focusing only towards the mobile app might turn out to be a backfire for sure.

Also for the smartphone freaks, installing too much applications like Flipkart or Snapdeal makes their mobile run too slow. Also navigating through a wide range of collection for any particular item turns out to be quite a headache for some impatient customers. If you take any major step for increasing the growth of trafficking of your online store then the decision should be made keeping in mind the convenience of all type of clients.

Just as if every coin has its two sides, every major decision made by any reputed establishment brings fragrance of glory or thorns of failure with it. Now, it is just a matter of time to watch whether this major gambling decision made by Flipkart brings the better half of the dice back with it or everything goes completely opposite to the desired expectations. The time will come with the result by itself.

Very well written and informative, but very stupid move by Flipkart. Mobile app can never match the usability and charm of desktop browsing.
